Recent development in two-dimensional material-based membranes for redox flow battery

Redox flow battery (RFB) has been widely considered to be one of the most promising grid-scale energy-storage technology. The membrane, namely separator, serves as preventing crossover positive and negative active species, while facilitating transport supporting electrolyte ions, is crucial achieve a high performance long-term stability for an RFB. Advances in RFBs require high-performance low-cost membranes with ion-selective application large-scale energy storage. Two-dimensional (2D) materials have emerged functional owing their atomic-scale thickness unique physical/chemical properties, which great potential RFB membrane. Focusing on recent state-of-the-art 2D materials, this mini review, various applied membrane are briefly introduced. A perspective near-future developments presented.
